About the Class
When you better understand how your body works when you sing, you can stop chasing the "right technique" or the "right way" to sing. Instead, you can explore different possibilities and choose what helps you create the sound and expression you want.
In this live, six-week online small-group class, we'll explore how your voice works through three fundamental areas of singing: breathing (The Breath You Choose), vocal resonance and tone quality (The Tone Quality You Choose), and singing with expression (The Expressive Voice).
This is a foundations class — not because it's only for beginners, but because we'll explore the fundamentals of anatomy and movement informed singing. Whether you're new to singing or have been performing for years, these are fundamental parts of how we sing, and you may experience them in an entirely new way.
No anatomy background is needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to explore, notice, and make choices.

What We'll Explore
Week 1
Breathing
The Breath You Choose.
How your breathing actually works, and how to take conscious control of it without causing unnecessary tension or strain.
Week 2
Vocal Resonance
The Tone Quality You Choose.
Shaping the color and quality of your sound — added to the breath you've begun to understand.
Week 3
Singing with Expression
The Expressive Voice.
Communicating meaning and emotion, with breath and tone now serving what you want to say.
Week 4
Breathing, deeper
The Breath You Choose, revisited.
Returning to breath now that tone and expression are present — where it opens into something deeper.
Week 5
Vocal Resonance, deeper
The Tone Quality You Choose, revisited.
Deeper resonance work, and the first singers share a prepared performance.
Week 6
Expression in Performance
The Expressive Voice.
The whole approach in use. Each singer performs — live or by shared recording — and receives supportive, personal feedback.
Each week builds on the last. Nothing is set down — every layer stays with us and deepens as the next is added.
